Before 1970 transcription was primarily one of the jobs of a secretary who would use shorthand to write down speech as they heard it. But with the introduction of cassette tapes at first, and then of digital software, transcription services have come a long way since they started and have become commonly used across businesses around the world. Almost every organization is using a transcription services today, and as demand for it is constantly growing, the transcription industry is likely to become one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

 

 

In the United States alone there were 14 million transcriptionists in 2006. By 2015 the number is expected to rise by another 3 million. A transcription job is a great choice for people who want to make some extra money, those who have retired, or those who would like to work from home and on their own schedule. It’s easy to do, doesn't take much time and pays very well. For these reasons, more and more people are becoming transcriptionists - not only in the United States, but around the world.

 

 

Since this is a service that is constantly going to be required, there are no doubts about the bright future of the transcription industry. With its flexibility, high returns on investment and continual new technology being added to the mix, the transcription industry is booming and is on pace for rapid continual growth.
