New Year’s Eve is a fun holiday that almost everyone loves. After all, it’s a time to celebrate everything you did in the last year while making resolutions for the upcoming year.

However, if you’re throwing a New Year’s Eve party you’re probably already starting to feel the stress. While it can be difficult to put together the perfect night, it doesn't have to be torture.

Use these 8 tips to help you plan the perfect New Year’s Eve party this holiday season.

  1. Have guests send you a list of a few of their favorite songs of the year. Put them on a playlist or CD and play them during the party. You can even mix the songs up so people hear their favorites throughout the night.

  2. Use candles instead of lights inside your home to make the mood a bit more romantic. You can still use lights on dimmers, especially in areas where people need to see to keep their balance.

  3. Don’t forget the traditional New Year’s party items. They’re definitely silly, but tossing some noisemakers, party hats, and silly string around the room can make for a pretty fun party – especially at midnight. Just make sure the silly string doesn't end up on the couch. Better yet, buy natural silly string that won’t stain.

  4. Set up a ‘casino night’ with fake money or have real money go to a charity! It’s a great way to spend the evening and do something good for the New Year.

  5. Make sure there are plenty of snacks. You can even put out breakfast food to keep people happy.

  6. Have everybody dress up. Black tie is an ideal way to celebrate if your friends would be comfortable with it!

  7. Prepare an outdoor area. Sometimes a party under the stars is the best.

  8. Make hot chocolate and put it in the refrigerator. Warm-up a batch and put it in to-go cups for your guests as they’re leaving!
